work of art
by lauren c. bacher
i'm painting you and i made a mistake
now i've got to go and wash this paint off my face.
i don’t want to, i like how it looks
but it’s just improper to be here with you.
find the space
draw the line
paint by number
all is fine
my clothes are ruined with paint spots and oils
i've bruised my fingers from all this pressure.
but it's all worth it even if it's not real
your face is too pretty to not picture here.
something tangible
something sweet
to make you last
even though we're fleeting
